At Aberdeen College of Shiatsu we teach a full and complete Practitioner Training Course in Shiatsu. The course meets the guidelines of The Shiatsu Society, the UK's Governing Body for Shiatsu.
The full course lasts three years. This is a long training to commit to, so we ask students to commit for one year at a time.
Travelling students are usually supported by their student peer group in Aberdeen. Volunteers offer accommodation which helps keep costs down and brings great benefits by sharing the practice and experiences of other students throughout training. We realize that the circumstance of life can make it impossible to attend every training weekend. Missed weekends can be taken with other year groups.
The focus of the teaching in the College places great emphasis on the quality of touch and the energy work surrounding Shiatsu. This supports the theory and makes the practical aspects feel truly relevant.
Shiatsu is not just a treatment which is done to others. It is very much about the self. Therefore growth work and self-exploration are essential parts of the training of a good Shiatsu Practitioner. Within the College we provide support teachers and practice classes to help students in the Shiatsu and in their self development.
The first year has a very practical focus. The second year introduces more Shiatsu theory and some physiology. The third year includes elements of pathology and emphasizes Traditional Chinese Medicine.Each year builds on the knowledge gained in previous years. By the end of the course you will have satisfied all the requirements laid down by The Shiatsu Society. You can find an outline of our curriculum here.
At the beginning of your training we introduce tutorials. You work on Teachers and Assistants. This helps us assess where you are with all aspects of the training.
Homework and practical assessments are spread throughout each year. They cover subjects like anatomy, pathology, case studies and character profiles. The homework is marked and the marks contribute to the end-of-year result.
To become a Member of the Register of The Shiatsu Society (MRSS) you must pass the practical and theoretical assessments of The Shiatsu Society. Our course has been ratified by The Shiatsu Society and only the practical assessment remains to be completed.
